Trading Standards operate throughout the UK and are specially trained teams that are usually created by local authorities. They enforce laws and regulations intended to protect consumers, businesses and the general public. Our client, who has a major presence in the children’s toy market, was accused of selling toys which were in breach of flammability requirements. The case was ultimately prosecuted in the Magistrates’ Court. Following a contested trial which led to experts being called on behalf of prosecution and defence, our client was acquitted of all offences they had been charged with and the Court made an order for their costs to be paid out of Central Funds.
